Modal is a  soft, lightweight fabric that drapes well, keeps its shape and is comfortable to wear.  Modal fabric is a man made 100% cellulose fibre, made out of pure wooden chips from the beech tree.

In many ways, modal acts like cotton, but with some significant advantages.  Like other types of rayon, originally marketed as "artificial silk," modal is soft, smooth and breathes well. 

Modal is resistant to shrinkage and is also less likely to fade or to form pills as a result of friction. Its smoothness makes hard water deposits less likely to adhere to the surface, so the fabric stays soft through repeated washings.
